The onset and prolonged duration of the COVID-19 pandemic since 2020 was an immensely challenging time for the entire world. The widespread illness, mental strain, job losses, shortages of essential medicines and PPE, and the tragic loss of life left an permanent mark on humanity. The impact was felt universally, uniting us in shared hardship, while reminding us of our collective vulnerability.
In response to this global crisis, our Association embraced the spirit of compassion and solidarity. In September 2020, as a gesture of goodwill, we distributed thermal scanners, sanitisers, face masks, gloves, and PPE to school staff. This initiative stemmed from our desire to safeguard the health of those on the frontlines of education, ensuring they could continue their important work amidst such uncertainty. By providing these essential supplies, we aimed to ease their burdens, showing our unwavering support during a time of profound challenge.
But our efforts went beyond just providing physical resources. Understanding the toll the pandemic took on mental health, we sought to offer reassurance and clarity. In April 2021, we organised an online discussion, led by Dr Praveen Bhatia, an alumnus of our community. His invaluable expertise helped dispel the myths and fears surrounding the virus, providing guidance to over 120 participants. This session wasn’t just about imparting knowledge—it was about fostering a sense of community, offering a platform for individuals to feel heard, supported, and empowered.
Through these initiatives, our Association has not only demonstrated a commitment to alleviating the material challenges caused by the pandemic but also a deep understanding of the importance of emotional well-being. True philanthropy, we believe, lies not only in offering physical aid but in extending kindness, support, and empathy. Our actions reflect these values, as we work together to rebuild, restore, and heal our community in these unprecedented times.
